1996We met so many great people, and got to spend time with friends that we almost never see. As time progresses, Burning Man becomes sort of a family reunion; we go to see the people we see when we go. The rolls saw 10,000 people on the playa this year, and many of them were not physically or psychologically prepared for the desert. Not seen here are the 10 medevacs, the compound fractures, the arson victims, the tents crushed by roving SUVs. This was the year Wired dubbed Burning Man the New American Holiday. Also not pictured: the 8-hour traffic jam leaving the playa, the sea of garlic from an overturned truck (and friends making garlic angels), or our car sinking in "quickplaya." Which was fine; I tend to prepare for any occaision and got us out of there.Burning Man is always good for gathering stories to tell ones' grandkids. |
